Rock the Pistes starts today in the Portes du Soleil! If you don’t already know what Rock the Pistes is, it’s one of the festivals on the ever-growing list of festivals taking place in ski resorts, you can combine an awesome ski holiday with the incredible atmosphere of a music festival. So aside from Rock the Pistes, check out our top picks for festivals in ski resorts.
Snowbombing
Snowbombing is one of the best-known festivals in the mountains, and is a week-long festival jam packed with world class DJs and music acts in the resort of Mayrhofen, Austria. The festival has been dubbed the ‘Glastonbury of ski resorts’ and has been running since 2000. You can still catch it this season if you’re quick April 4-9, tickets are still on sale.
Snowboxx
Snowboxx started life in Andorra, moved to Alpe d’Huez in 2015 and started yesterday (March 12) in Avoriaz for its 2016 run. Overlapping with Rock the Pistes, Snowboxx has a festival village set up in Avoriaz and all Rock the Pistes events are free to all Snowboxx ticket holders, double the fun! Showcasing the best of bass, dance and hip-hop, Avoriaz, March 12-19 2016.
The Brits
The Brits sees the annual British Snowboard and Freeski Championships alongside a week of live music and partying. As well as demonstrations from some of the best British boarders and skiers you’ll be spoilt for choice with après club nights and live music. You’ve still got a chance to get involved this year in Laax April 3-10.
Brew-Ski Festival
The 2016 Brew-Ski Festival in Boyne Highlands (USA) started yesterday and brings together a skier’s favourite things, skiing and beer. Representing more than 80 breweries and 300 beers, it’s a beer festival on the slopes, with live music to boot. It’s an annual event so keep a look out for next year’s date, likely to be in the middle of March again.
Altitude Festival
Everybody loves a good comedy show, and everyone loves skiing (well they should), and Altitude Festival is a perfect combination of the two. Another festival in Mayrhofen, unfortunately you’ve missed it for this season, but it’s due back in December 2016 so keep your eyes peeled for dates if you’re interested.
Adventure and Discovery Film Festival
There’s nothing skiers seem to enjoy more off the snow than a good ski film (and a beer)! The Adventure and Discovery Film Festival in Val d’Isère April 18-21 is a showcase of short films from the world of adventure, exploration, ethnic encounters, sport and expeditions.
Yoga Festival
It’s probably time for a detox and wellbeing effort at the end of the winter season so it’s perfect timing for the Yoga Festival in Val d’Isère, 29 April – 1 May. Enjoy yoga lessons, conferences, guided meditation and a pop-up organic bistro.
