Thanks to everyone who joined in with our question regarding MIPS last week!
Across our social accounts an impressive 54% of you knew what the MIPS system is, so well done to those for doing your research.
In simple terms, the MIPS is a low friction layer that sits between the helmet liner and the EPS foam part of the helmet. It allows the head to move 10-15 mm relative to the helmet in all directions, reducing rotational motion to the brain. The MIPS makes your helmet safer and adds protection. See video below for visual explanation.
MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) is a system that can be integrated into any sports helmet. When integrated in to a helmet, the MIPS can reduce rotational motion by redirecting energies and forces otherwise transferred to the brain.
It’s these rotational forces that predominantly cause brain tissue tears when we have an accident, accidents which happen to us all regardless of ability.
So the two big questions are…
Is it worth it?
How much extra would you pay to have this additional protection?
I think we can all agree that it’s worth it; after all we only get one brain, so we should take care of it as a priority.
That said, we all have different budgets and all spend our hard earned money on different things and in different ways. As a sports brand and someone who’s into technology and product, it’s something I’d love to offer you all. Our goggles have saved numerous people from serious eye injury over the years and it’s something I’d love to do with helmet’s too!
As you’d expect, to integrate MIPS into a helmet comes with additional production costs to us.
How much would you be happy to pay to have a helmet with the MIPS in?
£90-£110
£110-£130
£130-£150
£150 +
Thanks for being part of Summit and our joining little journey
